Gibb & Evans have been trading for 25 years although their experience in the butcher’s trade goes back nearly half a century. They specialise in naturally farmed free range meats, including beef from the Orkney Islands, lamb and pork from the best farms in Surrey, Sussex and Kent and free range chickens from the Surrey hills. They are one of only 14 “quality assured*” butchers in Surrey, which means they meet certain standards about the quality of their meat and their supply chain.

Ron Fowler has been in the fish trade for 50 years starting as a “Saturday boy” at a fishmonger called Jarvis’ in Kingston at the tender age of twelve. At the age of fifteen Ron began an apprenticeship with Jarvis’ which even involved ten days at sea on a fishing trawler. Ron moved on to run his own fish stall in Kingston market and then set up with his son in Bookham fifteen years ago where regular customers include Sir Michael Caine. Ron’s traditional skills are in such high demand that he is something of a celebrity in the fish world and lectures for the Tante Marie Cookery School.

Our Head Chef Howard specialises in pastry and loves making homemade desserts. He also has a penchant for Indian food so watch the specials board for details of our curry nights! Howard has been Head Chef at a number of high class restaurants including the Craigower in Pitlockery which specialises in sea food.

The Quality Standard for beef and lamb is the only scheme in the UK to cover eating quality. All beef and lamb carrying the Mark is chosen according to a strict selection process to ensure it is succulent and tender. Quality Standard beef and lamb is produced to higher standards than required by law with a supply chain which is fully assured and independently inspected at every stage from farm to meat counter.

The Quality Standard Mark also tells you where your beef and lamb is from. For example meat from an animal born, raised and slaughtered in England will carry the Quality Standard beef or Quality Standard lamb Mark indicating English origin with the St George's flag. If an animal cannot meet all the criteria, for example it is born in Scotland or Wales, it will be able to carry the Quality Standard Mark but indicate British origin with the Union flag.
